How To Change Your Business Hours On Google
As a business owner, there are times when you need to let customers know that your business will be closed or operating on reduced hours—whether it’s for a holiday, a special event, or a staff day off. But how can you communicate these changes effectively? The answer lies in understanding how to change your business hours on Google. For example, if you plan to close early on New Year’s Eve or take a day off for a team retreat, updating your hours on Google ensures your customers are informed, avoids confusion, and keeps your business profile accurate. This guide will show you exactly how to make these updates without any effort:
For making Google change business hours, the following are the steps to make use of:
1. Log in to Your Google Business Profile
- Open your web browser (chrome in my case) and navigate to Google Business Profile.
- Make sure you are using the Google account associated with your business. If you’re already signed in, you’ll be redirected to your profile dashboard.
2. Choose Your Business Profile
Now in the image attached below, you can see that I manage multiple Google My Business accounts.
- If you manage multiple businesses or locations, a list of profiles will appear.
- Select the specific business you want to update by clicking on its name.
3. Access the Business Information Panel
- Now here you can see a “Pencil”
- If you click on this, a pop up window will appear before you! This section contains all the essential details of your business, such as name, address, phone number, and hours. Also, we have discussed this section while discussing the guidelines for writing our Google business description.
4. Find and Edit the Hours Section
- Now if you see there are two ways to update the hours.
- First, Scroll down until you see the “Hours” section. It shows your current hours of operation.
- The second option is you can see that “Hours” are there on the horizontal tab and click them.
- Click the pencil icon ✏️ next to the hours to edit them.

5. Set Your New Hours
- A pop-up will appear, showing a grid with days of the week. Follow these steps:
- Open Days: Turn on the toggle for the days your business is open.
- Set Time: Add the opening and closing hours for each day.
- For example, if your business is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Mondays, input these times in the respective fields.
- Breaks in Operation: If your business closes temporarily during the day (e.g., lunch breaks), click “Add Hours” to create additional time slots which you can see here

- Closed Days: For days your business doesn’t operate, leave the toggle turned off.
6. Add Special Hours (If Applicable)
- For holidays, special events, or temporary closures, scroll to the “Special Hours” section. Click the pencil icon to update.
- Google will prompt you to select specific dates and times for these exceptions:
- Example: For Christmas Day, you can mark your business as closed or set shorter hours (e.g., 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM).
- Special hours override your regular business hours for the selected dates.

7. Save Your Changes
- After entering the correct hours, click the “Apply” or “Save” button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
- Google will process your request. While updates are often instantaneous, some changes may take a few hours to reflect on your public listing.
8. Verify the Updates
- To ensure the changes have been applied:
- Search for Your Business: Open Google Search or Google Maps and type your business name.
- Check the Displayed Hours: Look at the “Hours” section on your profile.

What if My Changes Don’t Show Up?
If you notice that hours are not changed within 2-4 minutes on your GBP, there is no need to panic. Because:
- Processing Time: Updates may take 24-48 hours to reflect, especially if Google needs to verify them.
- Pending Status: If you see a “Pending” message, Google is reviewing your update.
- Contact Support: If changes aren’t applied after a few days, contact Google Business Profile Support.
Can I Update Business Hours Using a Mobile Device?
Yes! You can edit business hours using the Google Maps or Google Business Profile app:
- Open the app and log in with the associated account.
- Tap “Profile” or “Your Business”.
- Go to the “Business Info” section and follow the same steps as above.
How to Add Split Hours?
If your business operates during multiple periods in a day (e.g., 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM), Google allows you to add split shifts:
- After entering the first time slot, click “Add Hours” for that day.
