At the time when I am writing this post- I am working as the SEO for Apex Locksmith. We are doing really well and have more than 25 GMBs associated with our website – 15 of them are ranking in the top 5 for the desired locations.
So if you’re in the locksmith business, you’ll want to know how we achieved this success—and how you can apply similar strategies to your own business – this post is for you!
Understanding the Client’s Vision
A successful SEO strategy starts with understanding the client’s core objectives. When Apex Locksmith approached me, the goal was clear: build a solid online presence and generate leads exclusively through organic SEO efforts. The client’s expectations were ambitious but achievable with the right approach.
- Establish a Comprehensive Canadian Locksmith Website: The aim was to create a robust online presence that covers all major cities across Canada.
- Generate Leads Exclusively Through SEO: The client was focused on building a sustainable lead generation strategy that relied solely on organic traffic.
Key Questions to Understand Vision
To ensure clarity, I asked questions such as:
- What services do you offer, and how do they differ from competitors?
- Which cities or regions do you want to target for lead generation?
- Who is your ideal customer?
- How do you currently attract leads?
This dialogue allowed me to tailor our SEO strategy to meet the client’s expectations effectively.
My Approach
Based on the client’s needs and the scope of work ahead, I identified two main areas of focus to drive lead generation: city-specific landing pages and effective Google My Business (GMB) optimization. Here’s a detailed breakdown of our approach:
1. City-Specific Landing Pages
To capitalize on local search traffic, we created dedicated landing pages for each key city offering services like Locksmith Burlington, Ajax, and others. Here’s how we crafted these pages:
- Localized Content: Each page featured engaging and informative content tailored to the specific city. We included details about the local locksmith services, including emergency lockout assistance, residential security solutions, and commercial locksmith services. Also, we added original images of the work we do.
- SEO Optimization: We implemented targeted keyword strategies, integrating relevant local keywords to enhance search visibility. Moreover, we did a very robust On-Page SEO like the optimization of H1, H2 and H3. This included using phrases like “locksmith in Burlington” and “emergency locksmith Ajax.”
- Call-to-Action (CTA): Each page included clear CTAs, encouraging visitors to contact us for quotes or services. This direct approach helped convert traffic into leads.
Likewise, for each page we also embedded a map too so to give directions for the users who want to know about the location.
2. Google My Business (GMB) Optimization
Optimizing our GMB listings was crucial for local visibility. Since the website we are working on operates in multiple cities; we needed to have more than one Google Business account. But again here it is tricky and you need to be very expert when it comes to creating GMB accounts across multiple cities.
Here’s what we did:
- Creating GMB/GBP for each City Page: I created GMB/GBP accounts for the locksmith category for all the city pages we have made.
- Connection to City Pages: Each GMB listing was then linked directly to its corresponding city page, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Business Information: We ensured all business information, including hours of operation, services offered, and contact details, was accurate and up to date.
- Customer Reviews: We actively encouraged satisfied customers to leave positive reviews on our GMB profiles. We provided follow-up emails post-service, gently reminding them to share their experiences. Positive reviews not only enhanced credibility but also improved our rankings in local search results. Also, we did a detailed schedule for posting regular updates on GMBs and the output you can see in the form of the image attached below:
3. Business Directory Registration
To extend our online presence further, we registered the business on various local business directories. This step included:
- Identifying Relevant Directories: We researched and identified directories popular in the locksmith industry and local business sectors, such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, and local chamber of commerce sites.
- Consistency in NAP: We ensured that our Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP) were consistent across all listings to boost local SEO.
- Adding Detailed Descriptions: Each listing included a comprehensive description of services, emphasizing our expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Since we were precise and we knew what we were doing – the majority of the links we made were easily indexed on their own without any special effort as you can see in image attached below:
4. Community Engagement through Social Media
Recognizing the importance of community connections, we formed a dedicated team to manage our social media presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Our strategy included:
- Showcasing Work: We posted before-and-after photos and videos of our locksmith services, demonstrating our expertise and the quality of our work. This visual content was particularly engaging and helped build trust.
- Educational Content: We shared tips on home security, lock maintenance, and safety measures to position our brand as a local authority in locksmith services. These posts not only educated our audience but also encouraged shares and interactions.
- Community Interaction: We actively engaged with our local community by responding to comments, participating in local groups, and sharing relevant local news. This helped us build a rapport with potential customers.
Moreover, we created business cards, and made promotional flyers that we spread. For the customers that we serve, we made Whatsapp channel and through regular posting we kept them engaged. As a result, we are receiving a lot of leads on regular basis.
Results: A Clear Impact
As a result of these efforts, we saw significant improvements in several key areas:
- Organic Traffic Growth: The newly optimized city-specific landing pages resulted in increased organic traffic, particularly for localized searches.
- Higher GMB Engagement: GMB impressions and clicks saw a sharp increase, driving more calls and inquiries from potential customers.
- Improved Lead Conversion: The well-optimized landing pages, combined with clear CTAs, led to a higher conversion rate from visitors to actual leads.
Alternative Strategies in Local SEO: EMDs and Branding
While this case study highlights our focus on brand-building through organic SEO, it’s worth noting that other approaches, like Exact Match Domains (EMDs), can also be effective. For example, one competitor, locksmithancaster.ca, uses an EMD to rank highly for their city-targeted searches. While EMDs can appear somewhat spammy, they can work well when executed with proper trademark registration.
That said, I personally favor a long-term approach that emphasizes brand authority over quick wins with exact-match domains. This strategy not only strengthens brand recognition but also fosters trust with customers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
To measure our success, we tracked several KPIs, including:
- Increase in Organic Traffic: We observed a significant rise in organic traffic to our website, particularly to the city-specific landing pages.
- Higher GMB Impressions and Clicks: Our GMB listings saw increased visibility, leading to more clicks and calls from potential customers.
- Lead Conversion Rates: The conversion rates from website visitors to leads improved as a direct result of optimized landing pages and CTAs.
Conclusion
Local SEO for locksmiths presents unique challenges, but with a strategic approach—focused on understanding client goals, optimizing for local search, and engaging with the community—businesses can achieve outstanding results. Through the combination of city-specific landing pages, GMB optimization, and community-driven social media efforts, Apex Locksmith saw a substantial rise in both traffic and leads.
If you’re in the locksmith industry or any other local service business, these strategies can work wonders for your visibility and lead-generation efforts. With dedication and the right tactics, your success story could be just around the corner.
